Sydney Twestival details: venue, date, price & entertainment

Your to-do list for this month:

  1. Put March 25th 7:30pm in your calendar
  2. Read about Concern Worldwide’s education programs, then make a donation to Concern Worldwide via PayPal at the link to the right
  3. Show up at the Sydney Twestival on the 25th with $25, meet everyone else, and have fun!

On Thursday March 25th Sydney’s Twitter community will come together offline at the Australian Centre for Photography in Paddington. They and their Tweeps around the world will be celebrating the latest global Twestival in support of the essential work done by Concern Worldwide.

Last year’s global Twestival raised over a quarter of a million dollars helping Concern Worldwide fund in excess of 55 new wells across Uganda, Ethiopia and India. The Sydney event raised over $1500, all done at very short notice. This year’s event is going to be bigger.

This year’s Twestival focuses on Concern Worldwide’s education programs. Kids in developing nations have the kind of obstacles to learning that we don’t even think about, and that can easily be overcome with financial support. We’re helping concern raise money to build schools, train teachers, provide clean water, furnish classrooms, provide school meals, and establish parent-teacher groups.

The Australian Centre for Photography (ACP) has generously offered a venue for Sydney Twestival and other local sponsors are being sought to provide lucky door and raffle prizes, refreshments and catering. Global sponsors include PayPal who is waiving all fees for Twestival donations to Concern Worldwide.

Sydney Twestival will feature live performances by local DJs, graffiti artists and other entertainers.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their mobile devices so they can live-tweet the event and connect with other Twestival partygoers via the global hashtag #Twestival. Interested Tweeps can follow @SydneyTwestival on Twitter or join the Facebook Fan Page for more event information.

Twestival is organised entirely by local volunteers, with all funds collected on the night going directly to Concern Worldwide, which in turn allocates 100% of all charitable gifts directly to their projects in the field.

You can register to attend by clicking here. You don’t have to register in advance, but there’s a limit of 250 capacity at the ACP, so we recommend you to do avoid disappointment. Then just show up on the night with a suggested donation at the door of just $25 for all the entertainment, socialising with other Tweeps, chances at door prizes, food and drink, and a look at the excellent work done by Concern Worldwide.

Sydney Twestival 2010: It’s going to be big

Posted on: 4 February 2010 at 1002 - Comment

On Thursday, 25 March 2010, Sydney will once again be part of Twestival. We’ll join hundreds of cities around the world to show that social media can have social impact, and raise awareness and money for Concern Worldwide.

Twestival is an event that has already established itself as an event that can make a difference. On 12 February 2009, over two hundred global cities, including Sydney, held the first Twestival Global to benefit charity:water. Over a quarter of a million dollars were raised. This resulted in more than 55 new wells in Uganda, Ethiopia, and India, providing clean water to more than 17,000 people. In Sydney we raised over $1500 of that total at very short notice, and were supported by online media, PR companies, and art galleries.

This year’s charity, Concern Worldwide, gives people the tools to improve their lives. Twestival is focusing on helping Concern with their education projects. All the donations from Twestival 2010 will be used to purchase material (curricula, desks, pencils, building materials); renovate classrooms; train teachers; create HIV/AIDS school clubs; provide school water and sanitation; establish health education and vocational/life-skills training, and more.

This year Sydney has more time to plan, a good organisation team, and many great ideas about how we can grow our local Twestival. In the next few weeks we’ll be announcing a venue, events, and all the fun for the night. It will be a chance to do something that makes a direct difference. Those who attend will also meet people, and more than just Sydney tweeters - they’ll meet everyone who has an interest in using online media to assemble, socialise, learn, and help.

Follow us now on @SydneyTwestival for more details. And plan to attend on the day.

Twestival is 100% volunteer organized and 100% of all ticket sales and donations go straight to the charity.

So, Sydney we asked you the age old question: are you a cat lover or are you a dog lover? And Sydney you had some interesting answers: Dogs won by a landside at the live in-person vote and Cats won by an overwhelming majority from online voting.

Now what does that say about our inner personalities? Dog lovers are out and about and Cat lovers are more prone to be indoors? Hmmm… interesting!

Thanks for your support to the RSPCA NSW!

Cafe Bones are donating 50c for every coffee/drink when you mention ‘Twestival’ or ‘RSPCA’

SYDNEYtwestival SURVIVES!!!!
ONLINE VOTING (donation$) IS ALL SET UP - get the word out!

THE age old question: Are you a Cat lover or are you a Dog lover? VOTE with your dollars for @RSPCANSW www.amiando.com/sydneytwestival09.html

So as you know by now the councils would not let us promote a local event (even contacted RSPCA to make sure we were not hosting it!! insane.)
However, a group are gathering at Shelly Beach at 1pm for a barbecue (BYOB/F) and then to Manly Wharf Bar (right off the ferry) for some drinkypoos.

This isn’t an ‘event’ but we would love to see you there! Unfortunately we cannot ask you to bring your dogs this time though.
You will see us at Shelly Beach (the beach at the far right end of the Manly Corso, take the footpath - easy), we will be walking around with the Dogs and Cats ‘faces’ asking for donations to the RSPCA NSW.

It’s supposed to be 27 degrees this weekend!

THANKS for all your support - please RT!!
